Pediatric Resident, Dr. Christy Tran Presents at The 16th Annual Thompson Center Autism Conference

PGY-2 Pediatric Dentistry Resident, Dr. Christy Tran had her research poster selected for the 16th Annual Thompson Center Autism Conference on October 14, 2021!

"Dental Knowledge of Healthcare Providers Working with Children with Autism Spectrum Disorder" with Christy Tran DMD, Sujatha Sivaraman BDS, DMD, MPH, Shreekrishna Akilesh DMD, MPH, Kristin Sohl MD, FAAP.
The purpose of the study is to understand and evaluate the dental knowledge providers such as SLPs, PTs, pediatricians, psychiatrists and other health care providers working with children with special health care needs to help increase access to care and provide recommendations and create resources such as educational materials, lectures, and referral information.
Our conclusion: This project in collaboration with the LEND Program of Columbia, Missouri, demonstrates the need for a pediatric dentist functioning as part of a multi-disciplinary health care team to help meet the comprehensive health care needs of patients with autism spectrum disorder, as well as educate healthcare providers on the importance of oral health.
