Name of Training Site:
Apple Tree Dental Fergus Falls Center for Dental Health
What is the mission of your training site?
Apple Tree’s mission is to overcome barriers to oral health! The entire Fergus Falls dental care team work collaboratively to improve access to care by providing the patients they serve with the very best oral health preventive and dental care services. AEGD residents are viewed as integral members of the Fergus Falls dental health care team who contribute to and assist in fulfilling our mission.
What types of dental services can I expect to perform?
Residents at Apple Tree Dental work with highly skilled faculty to perform a myriad of dental care services across the dental disciplines, except orthodontics. Residents can expect to enhance and expand upon their skills acquired in dental school through the provision of advanced services in pediatric dentistry, periodontics, endodontics, fixed and removable prosthodontics, operative, oral surgery, oral medicine, and implant restoration. Residents will receive observational experiences in the delivery of dental care services to highly-dependent special needs patients receiving care in an outpatient setting and those undergoing IV sedation to receive dental service. In turn they will interact with and observe nurse anesthetists or dental anesthesiologists.
The year spent with the faculty and dental care team at Apple Tree Dental’s Fergus Falls Center for Dental Health, will provide residents a well-rounded and broad experience in general dentistry and practice management. Their confidence in patient assessment, diagnosis and treatment planning will grow exponentially over that time, as will their restorative, prosthodontic, endodontic, periodontic, pediatric and oral surgery skills! Their ability to comfortably interact with others across the health care spectrum to obtain medical consultations and make referrals will become a routine part of their patient management activities. Equally, the residents’ self-assurance in addressing various dental trauma situations, managing patients’ pain and infections, as well as individualizing preventive oral health plans, educating and communicating proficiently with a wide range of patients will become second nature to them.
