Valley-Wide Health Systems
What is the mission of your training site?
Valley-Wide Health Systems is committed to providing
high-quality, safe, effective and integrated health care services in a
respectful and inclusive manner for all with special consideration for
medically underserved populations.
What types of dental services can I expect to perform?
Residents will be able to experience a wide variety of
procedures to provide comprehensive care for their patients. Extractions (both
simple and surgical), root canals (including molar endo), fixed and removable
prosthodontics, simple and complex restorations, nitrous administration, and
implant placement and restoration will all be procedures residents should be
expected to see during their time at our training site.
What types of technologies can I expect to use?
Intraoral scanners (Medit i700), endodontic microscope,
CBCT, implant planning software are all types of technology present at our
training site.
What is the patient population?
Patients often travel from across the six-county region to
access care, specifically to hubs like Alamosa. The population is ethnically
diverse, with a notable Hispanic population. Our focus at Valley-Wide continues
to be on low-income, medically-compromised, uninsured, and underinsured
populations.
What is life like outside of the training site?
Life in the San Luis Valley is incredible! Deeply rooted in
outdoor adventure, nature, community events, and a slower-paced mountain-valley
lifestyle, the San Luis Valley has something for everyone. From being home to
the Great Sand Dunes National Park to less than 2 hours away from 3 major ski
resorts, there’s always somewhere to explore. The San Luis Valley is about 2
hours away from Taos and Santa Fe, NM and about 4 hours from Denver. Alamosa
has a regional airport with multiple daily flights to and from Denver, making
travel across the state convenient and simple. Multiple hot springs resorts are
also scattered throughout the San Luis Valley. Camping, fishing, hiking, and
biking are all prominent throughout this entire 120-mile-long valley (the
largest alpine valley in the world)! Agriculture is a large economic factor of
this valley, ensuring you are never far from fresh farm-to-table produce (Over
90% of Colorado’s potatoes are grown in the San Luis Valley) and meat products.
The climate is wonderful year-round, with summers staying
mostly sunny and highs in the mid 70s. Winters can get colder, but snowy,
making it easy to enjoy all of the winter activities available.
Will residents have the opportunity to restore and/or
place implants at your training site?
Yes, residents will gain training with both placing and
restoring Nobel Biocare implants.
Will residents treat children at your site?
Yes, residents will
treat children at our site.
