New Jersey

With miles of beautiful beaches and close proximity to New York and Philadelphia, New Jersey offers residents a wide range of urban and rural environments, outdoor recreation, and educational opportunities. Known as the "Garden State" because of its lush green parks and mountains, New Jersey is also the most urban-oriented and densely populated state in the nation. NYU Langone Dental Medicine's health care partners in New Jersey are located in Camden and Jersey City. In Jersey City, 14.7 percent of residents lived below the poverty line in 2017. Camden, the poverty-stricken town of 77,000 in the southwestern region of the state, has an unemployment rate of at least 35% percent, it was reported in 2017. In 2019, 9.2% of people in New Jersey had incomes below the poverty line ($25,926 for a family of four) and 18.2% of people under age 65 and below 138% of the poverty line did not have health insurance. NYU Langone Dental Medicine and its health center partners help to ensure equitable and affordable dental care while enhancing and honing the skills of postdoctoral dental practitioners.
