Florida - Brandon Community Health Center - PEDS

The NYU Langone Advanced Education in Pediatric Dentistry program at the Tampa site operates within Suncoast Community Health Centers, Inc., a newly constructed, state-of-the-art pediatric dental clinic. Residents rotate through multiple locations, including the Brandon Community Health Center and Plant City Community Health Center. The main clinic features a thirteen-chair dental suite equipped with A-dec dental units, paperless charting, 3D computed tomography, flat-panel cable TV monitors in each operatory, LED lighting, digital radiography, and a dedicated anesthesia suite with a separate recovery room.

The faculty comprises a mix of full- and part-time pediatric dentists as well as an orthodontist, each bringing diverse expertise from private practice and public health dentistry. The residency program maintains a resident-to-assistant ratio greater than 1:1, ensuring exceptional support for each resident.

The program emphasizes pediatric sedation, general anesthesia, interceptive orthodontics, oral surgery, pediatric medicine (both inpatient and outpatient), craniofacial care, special patient care, community outreach, and advocacy. The site holds affiliations with Tampa General Hospital, a Level 1 trauma teaching facility, and South Florida Baptist Hospital, a regional medical center. Residents have the opportunity to teach students at LECOM.

Residents gain extensive experience in moderate sedation, utilizing a variety of medication administration routes including nasal, intramuscular, and oral. The program surpasses CODA accreditation standards for sedation and general anesthesia cases. Interceptive orthodontics training, supervised by orthodontic faculty, provides residents with a solid foundation and prepares graduates for advanced training in comprehensive orthodontics.
