Choptank Community Health’s dental program offers an accredited one-year Advanced Education in General Dentistry Program (AEGD) with the option of a second year focused on Public Health. The dental department, led by
Dr. Sandra Garbely is committed to providing advanced education in general dentistry to individuals who plan to seek careers in general dentistry.
Choptank has its own continuing education department which offers hands on courses to the dental community, international dentist and NYU Langone AEGD residency program. Continuing education courses and hands on workshops for oral surgery, implants, endodontics, digital scanning and CBCT training.
Here at Choptank, our faculty and staff dentists come from diverse clinical and academic backgrounds. Intensive clinical and didactic training in comprehensive care of dental patients, complex medical issues, critical thinking, and treatment planning are the top priorities of our program.
At Choptank Community Health we host a two-year NYU Langone Pediatric residency program led by Dr. Hadeel Alhassani. Geriatric dentistry specialist led by Dr. Tumouh Al-Allaq who is the NYU-AEGD site director and preceptorship program director.

The Endodontic department is led by Dr. Burton Waxman, who is a board-certified endodontist, a previous University of Maryland faculty with endodontic experience thirty plus years. Orofacial Pain, TMJ disorder and sleep apnea is led by Dr. Yenisey Valdes.

The most recent addition to our AEGD faculty is Dr. Andres Alvarez Deal an NYU Langone Alumni who stayed onboard as our junior faculty.
Residents participate in wide range of case presentations, literature reviews and guidelines in dentistry lecture series. New AEGD residents are involved in two weeks of orientation and hands-on workshops, prior to seeing patients at the start of their program. AEGD residents will always have direct supervision by clinical faculty, and chair-side guidance one on one with their attending faculty.
