New York - Buffalo - Shatkin Dental Health - AEGD

NYU Langone Dental Medicine and its health center affiliates help to ensure that residents of western New York have equitable and affordable dental care while enhancing and honing the skills of postdoctoral dental practitioners.

The Shatkin Dental Health community-based AEGD program focuses on broad-based dental experiences for residents, and compassionate care for our patients. We offer advanced training experiences in dental implants, implant site development, exodontia, oral surgery (including impacted teeth) and restorative work, as well as other aspects of general dentistry. We also provide IV sedation training, which is somewhat unique among AEGD programs. The online didactic education offered by NYU Langone Dental Medicine is exceptional, and this is augmented by in-house seminars and lectures. Additionally, Dr. Shatkin conducts mini dental implant training classes, both beginner and advanced, several times throughout the year right here at his Amherst, NY office. Dr. Samuel Shatkin Jr., a board certified plastic surgeon, will teach Botox and fillers to residents as he does to dentists from across the country.

We have a brand new, well-equipped office with 21 dental chairs and 3 surgical operating rooms, digital x-rays, digital patient records, and a CBCT 3-D scanner. We are well-staffed with 8 dental assistants, 1 nurse, and an MD anesthesiologist. We also have an in-house dental lab which specializes in crown and bridge as well as denture restorations. Much of the training program will focus on planning and treating the complex patient, especially as it involves dental implants and prosthetic reconstruction.

While it is unfortunate that many patients in our community are in need of our low-cost dental services, our residents benefit from a very large patient base and high demand for dental services. The patient base consists of people of all ages and from all walks of life. This creates a rewarding experience for both patients and residents.
