The NYU Langone Advanced Education in Pediatric Dentistry program -Brooklyn site operates within The Health Centers at NYU Langone and offers a comprehensive and rigorous training program in one of the most dynamic and diverse cities in the world. Unique as a health center located within NYU Langone Medical Center, a level-1 trauma hospital, the site serves the community’s oral health needs across multiple Brooklyn neighborhoods, including Sunset Park, Park Ridge, Park Slope, Brooklyn Chinatown, Flatbush, and Seventh Avenue family health centers. Residents gain experience working alongside faculty mentors and have access to 28 dental operatories and operating rooms across the medical center and Brooklyn.
Pediatric dental residents provide care to a large, underserved, and diverse patient population, collaborating closely with a multidisciplinary team of anesthesiologists, endodontists, periodontists, oral surgeons, general dentists, orthodontists, and other medical providers to ensure comprehensive care. The Brooklyn site collaborates with other postdoctoral residency programs such as Advanced Education in General Dentistry (AEGD), GPR, Dental Anesthesiology, and Endodontics, enriching the multidisciplinary training environment.
The site includes training in oral conscious sedation—performed onsite under the supervision of dental anesthesiologists and pediatric dentists and is approved with New York State to obtain a NY permit on graduation when meeting all requirements. General anesthesia cases are conducted in the operating room with dental or medical anesthesiologists and pediatric dentists. Residents also rotate through Emergency Medicine and Pediatric Medicine and attend craniofacial team meetings. The resident rotate to NYU College of Dental Medicine review literature and help teach students.
Residents provide care during extended hours, including nights, weekends, and on-call shifts, improving access for the patient population served and educational experiences for the residents. Each resident is paired with a dental assistant to manage a substantial patient load effectively.
Graduates leave the program culturally competent and well-prepared to treat diverse and complex pediatric dental cases across a variety of clinical settings.
