What is the mission of your training site?

As a community health center our team will use data, experience and partnerships to provide primary medical, oral and behavioral care, pharmaceutical and urgent care health services that will be personalized, accessible and exceptional

What types of dental services can I expect to perform?

Comprehensive, integrated and advanced oral health services.

Residents will gain further experiences in restorative dentistry, oral surgery, removable and fixed prosthodontics, periodontal procedures, endo procedures (including molars).

In addition, due to our integrated medical/dental/behavioral health patient centered medical home residents will learn how to treatment plan and work with patients with complex medical histories while collaborating with their PCP and associated Specialists.

What types of technologies can I expect to use?

Digital extra and intra oral imaging systems. An integrated EMR. Rotary endo system. Nitrous Oxide. Treatment room for individuals with special health care needs (e.g., wheel chair lift, environment for sensory processing disorder)

What is the patient population?

Diverse patient population including migrant and seasonal farm workers, aerospace engineers, coast guard, and poultry farmers. Our target population includes patients with complex medical conditions and individuals with special health care needs.

What is life like outside of the training site?

Things to Do;  Kayaking, Fishing, Boating, Surfing, Hiking and Birding

Weekend road trips to Washington DC, NYC, Philadelphia.

The clinical site is located within an hour drive of Norfolk and Virginia Beach.

Will residents have the opportunity to restore and/or place implants at your training site?

They will get the opportunity to restore implants. We are not currently surgically placing dental implants but both an oral surgeon and periodontist provide services at our health center each month – this may be an area we develop over the next year

Will residents treat children in your training site?

Yes, we are the primary care provider for all children raised and growing up on the Eastern Shore of Virginia and provide oral health services starting when the first tooth erupts. We have a pediatric dentist who may mentor resident dentists
