The Department of Dentistry of Chesapeake Health Care serves as the clinical training site for accredited AEGD and Pediatric Dentistry programs, offering patient services in a 24 operatory facility in Princess Anne and a new 6 operatory facility in Salisbury.
Chesapeake Health Care is a Federally Qualified Health Center with clinical programs in Dentistry, Internal Medicine, Pediatrics, Mental Health and Obstetrics and Gynecology. The Department of Dentistry currently supports 13 residents and 9 full time faculty members, having experienced significant growth in recent years.
Serving the three lower counties of Maryland’s Eastern Shore, the AEGD program provides comprehensive dental services to patients in the poorest of Maryland’s counties. In addition to offering a full range of diagnostic and therapeutic oral health services to the general population, Chesapeake Health Care has pioneered an innovative program focusing on expectant mothers that offers great benefit to patients and to the dental staff, providing care to motivated patients eager to complete their treatment plans.
Residents provide patient care under direct supervision of faculty, whose time is dedicated to teaching and supervision. Within the contxt of the educational program residents recive significant experience in restorative dentistry, oral surgery, endodontics and prosthetic dentistry in preparation for a clinical career in General Dental Practice or to explore and pursue areas of special interest.
In addition to NYU Langone Dental Department’s formal educational program, the Chesapeake Health Care Department of Dentistry maintains an in-house curriculum that includes treatment planning sessions, case presentations and guest lecturers from other institutions, including through video teleconferencing.
