New York - Metropolitan - Upper Room AIDS Ministry, Inc., Harlem United - AEGD

A history of compassion in Harlem. The Harlem United community AIDS Center offers people living with HIV/AIDS comprehensive, cutting edge primary and specialty medical care, dental care, HIV prevention and education, housing and support services to Harlem's diverse community. In 1988, at the height of the initial wave of the HIV/AIDS epidemic, two men and a Jesuit priest founded Upper Room AIDS Ministry in response to the community's cries for help. By 1995, the organization was renamed Harlem United Community AIDS Center, Inc. to reflect the non-sectarian nature of its services. In August 2003, through a partnership with Columbia University, Harlem United opened a state-of-the-art dental facility on the West Side that offers a variety of comprehensive services to both HIV-positive and HIV-negative underserved and special needs populations. Services include Diagnostic, Preventive care, Emergency care, Restorations, Endodontics, Prosthodontics, Periodontics (referrals to outside specialists for complex surgical procedures), and Oral Surgery.
